Fridge – three-way, ex-caravan
Electrolux RM212 three-way fridge: runs on gas, 12V and mains. Small freezer compartment.
I recovered it from a caravan which we’ve scrapped due to damp. The back of the fridge is corroded but I believe it’s in full working order. We’ve run it all three ways, and it worked fine. From the front, it’s in decent condition.
If you’re running it on gas, you’ll need to plumb in the exhaust appropriately.
On 12V, these fridges are uncontrolled: they just keep chilling until everything’s frozen or your battery goes flat. I’m not sure why they do that – perhaps it’s for short periods being towed from one caravan site to another. Less useful on a boat.
On mains, it works like a normal fridge.
Fridges that can run off gas (absorption) aren’t as efficient as fridges that run purely on electricity (vapour compression). It’s probably a factor of 4. But boat fridges are expensive, and this one is free!
